Wet weather didn’t dampen runners spirits

North Wealden had there best ever results in the county primary schools cross country last Saturday (13th February).

Sussex Primary Schools Cross Country 2016 GirlsRunners from the district’s local primary schools had never won any medals before, but this year they had the first individual girl, the boys team were second and the girls team came third.  Eleanor Strevens from Maynards Green Community Primary School in Heathfield took the individual gold medal.  Brighton and Hove won the Gold in both the girls and boys team competition.

Runners representing all nine Sussex School Games regions came together at Hickstead Showground to compete in the finals having all qualified from thousands that had taken part in school, cluster and region cross country events across Sussex.

The course was very heavy going and thus very challenging for the young competitors aged between nine and eleven.

Despite the difficult conditions the runners showed great determination and character.

As with all School Games events, an Olympic style presentation was held at the finish in which gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams and individuals.
