At the end of Planning Committee North today (Thursday 7th), Councillor Steve Isted (Jarvis Book) asked about the Steel Cross development.
It is understood a decision to prevent a development of 100 houses in the High Weald AONB off Palesgate Lane, is being challenged by the both developer and Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on the basis that Wealden District Council cannot show it has enough land for housing for the next five years. In February, a High Court judge overturned an appeal decision taken by a Government planning inspector.
In his reply Kelvin Williams, Head of Planning and Environmental Services, said Cllr Ann Newton, Cabinet member for Planning & Development, is seeking a meeting with Greg Clark, Secretary of State and Tunbridge Wells MP, to voice Wealden’ District Council’s concerns.
The Treasury Secretary, on behalf of the Department of Communities and Local Government, is seeking leave to appeal the High Court judgment on Steel Cross.
Wealden District Council are awaiting the outcome of this application but they have said they are unlikely to hear anything until later in the summer.
