Update: Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has been re-appointed in Rishi Sunak’s reshuffle.

Nusrat Ghani, the MP for Wealden, has been appointed Minster of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in Liz Truss’s Government.

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden

She was previously Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport from January 2018 to February 2020, and a Government Whip until December 2019.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is led by Jacob Rees-Mogg as Secretary of State.

Her responsibilities include science, maritime and space.

Earlier this year Ghani said she was dismissed as a transport minister in 2020 because she was a Muslim. She said that a government whip had told her that her Muslimness was raised as an issue. In response Boris Johnson ordered a formal inquiry into allegations.

Ghani publicly announced her support for Liz Truss when she introduced her at the Hustings in Eastbourne.

More information about her responsibilities can be found on the gov.uk website Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy: Our Ministers.

Published on 8th September, updated with her responsibilities. Another update on 27th October during new PM’s reshuffle.
