Nusrat Ghani, the MP for Wealden, has been appointed Minster of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
She was previously Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport from January 2018 to February 2020, and a Government Whip until December 2019.
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is led by Jacob Rees-Mogg as Secretary of State.
Earlier this year Ghani said she was dismissed as a transport minister in 2020 because she was a Muslim. She said that a government whip had told her that, in the Downing Street meeting that her Muslimness was raised as an issue. Boris Johnson has ordered a formal inquiry into allegations.
Ghani publicly announced her support for Liz Truss when she introduced her at the Hustings in Eastbourne.
