A major initiative has been launched to encourage visitors to spend more time enjoying the timeless treasures of this forgotten corner of the South East.
Nearly 6 million visitors come to Wealden every year, spending over £280 million and supporting over 6,000 jobs.
Councillor Roy Galley, Cabinet member for Economic Development and Regeneration said:
Our We Do Sussex campaign aims to promote the attractions of the hidden countryside and coast that is Wealden.
We are working closely with over 80 tourist businesses from the District to promote their attractions and facilities and encourage visitors to spend more time in this wonderful part of Sussex. From the beauty of the High Weald to the ever-changing face of our coastline we have so much to offer – and much of it is off the well-trodden visitor path.
Over 100,000 visitor guides are being distributed across the south east and beyond, We Do the best attractions in Sussex gives details of attractions in Wealden and has been produced as part of the initial phase of the We Do Sussex campaign. They are being circulated at visitor locations within a two and a half hours driving time of Wealden as well as at restaurants, cafes, pubs, historic gardens and visitor attractions throughout the District. The Tourism Officer at Wealden District Council contacted attractions and offered an advert with a picture and up to 25 words for free.
Some of the attractions and businesses in the north of the District included in the leaflet are:
|Groombridge Place & The Enchanted Forest
Millbrook Garden Centre
Royal Ashdown Forest
Spa Valley Railway
Sussex Country Gardner
Windmill – Nutley
Wych Cross Nursery Ltd
Wealden District Council say they expect a lot of visitor interest in their new www.wealdendo-sussex.co.uk website which will go live shortly. The website is being specially created to provide information on our attractions and a calendar of events to provide opportunities for visit throughout the year.
