Water main replacement

Work on a scheme to install new water mains along Walshes Road and Stone Cross Road, between Luxford Road and Alice Bright Lane, is due to start on 22nd July.

South East Water’s Project Manager Jeremy Dufour said:

Our work is part of our ongoing commitment to invest in the water network in in Crowborough by replacing old pipes which are at greater risk of leaks and bursts.

We need to install two new water mains, each about 650 metres in length, so the work will take a bit of time. We estimate it will be 34 weeks, but if we can get it finished sooner, we will.

To keep the public and our workforce safe, we have to close Stone Cross Road and have traffic lights in Walshes Road. We know this will cause some inconvenience, but we will keep disruption to a minimum and access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times.

Their contractor Clancy Docwra are going to use open cut techniques to install pipes within the same trench.

Construction work will be carried out in stages. As a safety precaution they will need to close Stone Cross Road to through traffic while they carry out their work.  A diversion route, which has been agreed with East Sussex Highways, will be clearly signed for the duration of the work.

One section of Stone Cross Road will be closed at a time, starting at Fermor Road and finishing in between Alderbrook Close and Alice Bright Lane. The road will be returned to its original state upon completion of each section before the working area moves along to the next stage.

Along Walshes Road temporary traffic lights will be used to enable motorists to use the road while work takes place.

Customers will be able to access their homes and businesses throughout this project, although there may be a short wait at times if the contractors are working outside a property entrance.

Work will take place between 7am and 7pm from Monday to Friday.

There may be a short interruption to the water supply as they connect their new pipe to the existing network but South East Water have said they will write to customers at least 48 hours in advance if this is going to happen.

Their dedicated webpage will be updated regularly as the work progresses: https://corporate.southeastwater.co.uk/walshesroad
