Tree to honour the Duke & Duchess of Sussex

Crowborough Town Council have announced they will be planting a new tree on Chapel Green to commemorate the recent marriage of Prince Harry and Megan Markle.

On the morning of the wedding The Queen conferred the Dukedom on the Prince.

The tree-planting ceremony will take place at 12.15pm on 16th June 2018 as part of the Town Council’s Sussex Day celebrations.  In honour of the new Duchess of Sussex the tree will be an American Red Oak.

The previous tree on the corner of Church Road and Gordon Road was cut down last year.  It was estimated that about ¾ of the tree was dead and it was considered a danger so it had to be removed.

In related news, Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, has invited the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to visit the treasures of the beautiful Wealden countryside.

I warmly congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding; the ceremony was a joy to behold and I wish them all the best in the future.

I am also immensely proud to welcome their new royal dukedoms hailing the wonderful county of Sussex.

Sussex is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, and I would like to extend a warm invitation to the Duke and Duchess to visit the treasures Wealden has to offer.

From the charm of Winnie the Pooh, to the allure of the Ashdown Forest and award winning sparkling wine vineyards, there is so much for the Royals to discover.

The Duchess of Sussex has described herself as a feminist on the royal website, and I can think of no better way to start than by visiting the wonderful exhibition at Bridge Cottage celebrating the centenary of women getting the vote for the first time.

The Women of Wealden exhibition takes place at Bridge Cottage in Uckfield from now until the 2nd June.
