David Larkin, Hilary Lyon, Martin Prestage declare their election candidacies for Wealden District Council, collectively using the banner ‘Crowborough First’.
David Larkin is currently the Conservative Councillor for Crowborough East, but as a Director of the Crowborough Community Association he has been a outspoken critic of the decisions made by the ruling Conservative Executive. Councillor Larkin has told CrowboroughLife he is still a member of the Conservative Party nationally.
The other two candidates are also strong supporters of the Crowborough Community Centre. Martin Prestage previously represented the Jarvis Brook ward as a Liberal Democrat Councillor for one term from 2007-2011. Hilary Lyon is a former Crowborough Town Councillor and was Mayor for three years.
In their election leaflet (shown below) they have said:
Crowborough deserves better. It is time to turn the tide. Give Crowborough a strong and independent voice, put Crowborough First and vote for your Independent candidates for Wealden District Council on 7th May.
Councillor Larkin told CrowboroughLife:
We hope to work in ‘coalition’ with others who are like minded and prepared to put Community or Crowborough First.
They are not the only independent candidates standing in Crowborough for Wealden District Council. Stephen Isted wants to be re-elected as the elected member for Jarvis Brook. The only Green Party candidate is Scott Mason. As the nomination period only closed at 4pm yesterday (Thursday 9th), not all candidates are known at this stage. The Conservative Party have told CrowboroughLife who is standing in both the District and Town Council elections, but candidates from the other political parties are not currently known.
