A recently retired headteacher from Crowborough has been crowned Sussex Headteacher of the Year 2020.

Mrs Hogg was Head of School at the Infant Site at Ashdown School and retired in the summer, after 18 years working at the school. She was instrumental in helping the school gain its Inclusion Quality Mark and worked tirelessly to achieve and maintain its Fairtrade status.

Mrs Janet Hogg was awarded both the ‘Lewes and Wealden Headteacher’ award and she was crowned overall ‘Sussex Headteacher of the Year’.

Executive Headteacher at Ashdown School, Mrs Owbridge said:

Janet will be missed by the whole school community, but we are so pleased that she is able tostart her retirement with such a well deserved accolade.

The annual Sussex Teacher of the Year Awards recognise the expertise and dedication of outstanding teachers and celebrate the vital contribution all teaching staff make to our community.

The awards were supposed to be announced at an awards dinner in June, however because of coronavirus instead this year viewers tuned-in to watch the event online. The video, including guest speaker comedian and children’s author David Walliams, can be watched on YouTube. (You can see the part featuring Janet Hogg @42:00):

The full list of award winners will be available on the charity’s website: www.kmcharityteam.co.uk.
