The £6,000 from Wealden District Council’s Community Grants Programme has been used towards a wider refurbishment program that has seen the hall much improved over recent months.

Group Scout Leader Robin Carmichael said:

The Hall is central to our activities; there are at least ten sessions held here every week.  The new gutters mean that all the hard work and provision for the young people of the town that goes on here can continue way into the future.

1st Crowborough are one of the largest and oldest scout groups in the country with links back to the founder Lord Baden Powell who began the movement in nearby Wadhurst.  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was the secretary of the Group Executive when he lived in the town.  There are currently 228 young members who enjoy the facility provided by a dedicated team of 48 adult volunteers and 38 occasional helpers.
