Police are urging residents in East Sussex to be vigilant after a spate of rural burglaries in which angle grinders were used to gain entry to outbuildings.

Since the beginning of the year, ten similar offences have been reported across North Wealden, Hastings and Rye districts. The majority have occurred in rural locations, with farm outbuildings and containers being targeted. A quantity of tools and quadbikes have been taken during the break-ins.

PCSO Georghiou said:

As we continue to gather information and build a picture around these reported crimes, we are keen to speak to anyone who has information related to similar offences.

Whether you are a victim, or if you have witnessed any suspicious behaviour or vehicles in the vicinity, please do get in touch with us no matter how small you think the information is.

Our team regularly patrol the rural areas of our communities, and these patrols have been stepped up in the targeted locations and at the key time when these offences have been taking place.

We ask people to remain vigilant, to take steps to protect their property and to contact us if they have any concerns.

Protect your Property

  • Consider a burglar alarm system and a CCTV system.
  • Position cameras where they are best able to obtain good quality image of any intruder’s faces.
  • Place signage up warning that CCTV and and an alarm system is in use.
  • CCTV and an alarm are not a substitute for good quality physical security.
