Passing of Ron Bishop aged 93

Ron Bishop was born and brought up in the Beeches and lived in Crowborough all his life except for service in the Pacific with the Royal Navy during World War II.

Bishop After war service he became a window cleaner but gradually branched out into office, home and carpet cleaning starting Bishops Cleaning Service in 1960.

The business steadily grew with the active help of his wife Doris and the sanding and sealing of wooden floors was added to the services offered to the people of Crowborough and surrounding towns.  Ron and Doris retired from the business in 1990 after which they supported their twin sons Mark and John as they continued running the family firm.

In the early years Ron could be found in Crowborough High Street every weekday morning making sure that Woolworths and other shops had clean windows and clean offices ready for the days business, always with a cheery word for all that passed by.

Ron’s strong Christian faith was evident to all that knew him, and he was for a large part of his life a deacon at Forest Fold Baptist Church, closely supporting the late Pastors, Stanley Delves, Peter Rowell and the current pastor John Cowley.

Funeral Service

Ron was pleased to share with everyone his love for God and His word the Bible and encouraged all to believe and trust in the Lord Jesus that he so willingly served.  This desire will be continued at his Funeral service at Forest Fold Chapel on Saturday 9th March at 11am where as well as remembering Ron’s life, we will be able to join together with many from Crowborough and far beyond to thank and worship God who Ron so trusted and adored.

Ron went peacefully to be with his Lord during his sleep on the 13th February at the Pilgrim Home’s Milward House in Tunbridge Wells where he was very well looked after for the final three months of his life.  Doris, his late wife passed away in 2016 and their large family of 6 children, 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren will miss him greatly.

I remember Ron with great respect – he was quite remarkable.  Few can have achieved so much through their energy and hard work both in his business and at Forest Fold, and all with his infectious welcoming smile.

Crowborough has lost one of its finest with the sad passing of Ron Bishop.

Ron was truly a good man who built up his successful business with traditional values, kept his faith and nurtured a wonderful and loyal family.

I had the pleasure of working closely with Ron when we were appointed to work on the Forest Fold major enlargement project back in 1995.

You could not have wished to work for a more genuine people than those at Forest Fold and Ron was a huge part of the day to day running using his many talents and kind and generous approach to ensure that the project was a success.

You rarely come across the like of Ron; he was a very special man. We will miss him but hold dear treasured memories never to be forgotten.

James Steven, Stevens Brothers Builders.

Ron Bishop really was a very special man.  His great love for people had a big impact on Forest Fold, on Crowborough and way beyond.  He would say it was because the love of Jesus had affected him so much – and that would be true. We will miss him greatly

John Cowley, Pastor, Forest Fold Baptist Church.
