A statement by the Trust that runs the Birthing Centre at Crowborough Hospital states they are now making preparations for re-opening.
Births were suspended at Crowborough Hospital on 31st December 2020. Initially the reason given was the ambulance service could not guarantee an emergency ambulance would be available to transfer mother and baby from Crowborough to Tunbridge Wells Hospital in the case of complications. However the birthing centre did not reopen because of a shortage of midwives.
On Wednesday the following was posted on Facebook:
In preparation for restarting our MTW home birth service and for resuming all birth services at Crowborough Birthing Centre, we are now booking birth place assessments for all ‘Low Risk’ pregnant people above 34 weeks.
