New 40mph zone proposed for Rotherfield Road in Jarvis Brook

East Sussex Highways are proposing to introduce a new 40mph speed limit on the B2100 Rotherfield Road in Jarvis Brook.

The zone would run from the end of the existing 30mph at the end of Mottins Hill to a point between the junctions of Clackhams Lane and Palesgate Lane.  The speed limit on that stretch of road past Millbrook Garden Centre and the Industrial Estate is currently 60mph.

A 30mph speed limit is also being proposed for Tubwell Lane and Treblers Road.  (Click on the map for more detail and turn on the additional layers.)

40mph-mapA spokesperson for East Sussex County Council (ESCC) said:

A possible reduction in speed limit on the B2100 in Jarvis Brook was identified in a countywide review. We are proposing to reduce the current speed limit of 60mph to 40mph and are in the initial stage of consultation.

We will advertise the proposals shortly, at which stage the public will be invited to comment.

In 2011 the Town Council proposed an extension of the 30mph in this area.  The proposal was discussed at the Town Council’s Environment Committee on Tuesday and Councillors were in broad agreement that extending the 30mph zone Sybron Way was preferable as many pedestrians walk along the side of the road to Tescos and the Millbrook Industrial Estate, but they felt there was some advantages having a transition from the 60mph to 30mph.
