Police engagement with our community

Earlier this month there was a meeting at Crowborough Community Centre attended by the District Commander for the Eastbourne, Lewes and Wealden districts, Chief Inspector Anita Turner, and Inspector Jon Gross, who leads the Prevention Team in Wealden.

The meeting was an opportunity for people living in Crowborough to discuss how the community as a whole could address the challenges in our policing.

The session was arranged by Wealden Labour, but was open to all members of the public.  The two police officers agreed to attend only if it remained politically neutral.

The official notes of the minutes have now been released and you can click here to download a copy: Sussex Police Meeting 16th October 2018.

At the beginning there was a short presentation from the police officers before the those present selected one of the following breakout groups to participate in:

  • Road safety (Angela Smith)
  • Police engagement with the community (Jon Gross)
  • Working with young people (Gareth Owen-Williams)

There was supposed to be a fourth group looking at rural affairs, but there was lack of interest in the topic.  In the end this small group, composed of many ex-police officers, looked at general policing issues (Chris Hinton).
