Around 30 residents, including some elderly people who are living with dementia, are having to be found new accommodation with the closure of Pinewood Manor on Old Lane.
The closure in Crowborough comes just months after Ampersand Care Limited closed their other residential homes in the Greater Manchester area, citing nursing shortages and financial stresses.
In 2016 Pinewood Manor was rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ by the Care Quality Commission, but following improvements to staffing levels and the installation of a modern fire safety system, the watchdog gave the care home a “Good” rating after an unannounced inspection this March.
An East Sussex County Council spokesman said:
We received notice from the owners of Pinewood Manor on June 5, of their intention to close the care home on 2nd July. As soon as we were made aware we began discussions with residents and their families about the options available to them, and identified alternative accommodation.
Pinewood Manor is rated ‘good’ by the CQC and is fully occupied, and we were keen to see the home sold to an alternative provider but unfortunately this has not been possible. We are grateful to the manager and staff for their support and dedication during this process.
