Paul Bysouth, the former owner of the Funeral Directors in Crowborough, died peacefully at home in Burwash on 19th March.
Paul took over his father’s business in Crowborough in 1962.
Mr Bysouth was a former President of The National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF). The Society shared the sad news of his passing on their website:
Many of our membership will know Paul Bysouth, especially those involved in the earliest years of SAIF and in more recent times will be aware of the challenges that he faced stoically with his wife, Dorothy following his stroke over eleven years ago.
He was instrumental in the very genesis of SAIF when it was founded in 1989, believing passionately in the need to support the independent funeral sector against the rising proliferation of the corporate funeral companies and their aggressive marketing techniques. He believed instead that family owned funeral directors wanted a trade association that would uphold the highest of values and offer reassurance and comfort to the members of the public.
In recognition of his work the Society made him a Fellow in 2011.
It is understood Paul Bysouth sold the business to a company that owned nursing homes and funeral directors. It was acquired by Dignity Funerals Limited in June 2007, but the funeral director’s on Croft Road still trades under the name Bysouth.
A private family funeral service will be held in due course.
