Opening of a Scrapstore

To mark the opening of their new Scrapstore in Jarvis Brook, Artytime are organising a Community Day on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May.

The Scrapstore, in the former JBs, will collect unwanted materials which can be re-used for art and craft projects.  These materials may be supplied to schools, playgroups, children’s holiday clubs and other community organisations.

Artytime started in 2014 and run creative workshops and sessions in our community, from after school clubs and parent and toddler groups through to inter-generation projects in care home.

Founder of Artytime Beverly Pashley said:

Scrapstores are a brilliant way to reuse materials, and promote recycling, while giving children and adults lots of materials to get creative.

We see the new project as a community resource.  A hub for crafters and knit and natter groups to meet and do, while manning the store for visitors.

Some Scrapstores even organise their own art activity sessions in school holidays.  This is one of our future aims too.  Others sell items to the general public online or in local shops to raise money to fund their activities.

This project has been funded by the Big Lottery and Gatwick Airport Community Trust, Crowborough Town Council  and supported by Wealden District Council and local businesses Howdens , Flack electrical, Coppards, Cheeky Communications.

Organisations and individuals can join the Scrapstore for only £25 per year.  This money will cover insurance, utilities, rent and other expenses.

There will be craft stalls, street artist, face painters, charity raffles, a cake stall, a bouncy castle and more.

Artytime are inviting crafters, community groups and charities to have stalls on the 6th May to raise awareness and funds for their causes too.

Anyone who would like to volunteer and be part their project should email
