Update: Costa has applied for permission to erect new signs at Harris & Hoole’s old location – Broadway Chambers. The public have until 30th January to comment.
Yesterday (Thursday 11th), CrowboroughLife told you Costa were advertising for an Assistant Manager’s position for Crowborough.
Well now it’s official, Costa’s press office this morning have issued the following statement:
Costa, the nation’s favourite coffee shop brand are pleased to announce that we are opening a brand new store on in Crowborough in early February 2015, bringing 8-10 new jobs to the local area. As with all of our new store openings we will do all that we can to integrate ourselves with the local community, getting involved with events; providing the store as a meeting place and helping with fundraising.
At the moment they are keeping tight-lipped about which unit they will occupy, all they will say is it is on the High Street! As soon as this information breaks we will let you know. But if you have the inside track – do let CrowboroughLife know.
Since Wetherspoons decided to re-open the Crowborough Cross there has been speculation about whether any other High Street chains would follow them to Crowborough. When Harris & Hoole closed in September there were heartpourings of affection about the demise of the coffee shop.
On seeing the job vacancy being advertised, Phil Stanford, who owns Cross Country Stores and Tea Rooms said on Facebook:
with this and wetherspoons we will have to make some changes to survive
