New project to tackle loneliness

Age UK East Sussex are starting a new befriending service which will cover the Crowborough area.

This new exciting programme is called the ‘123 Service’ and involves volunteers befriending an older person living close by who has become isolated and lonely.  The support provided normally means having some sort of weekly contact over a period of up to a year, but it is designed to be flexible to fit around our volunteers busy lives.

Charles Sheldon, Health and Community Development Manager said:Age Concern East Sussex befriending scheme

It is called the 123 Service because our aim is not just to build a friendship with the volunteer, but to encourage older people to develop their own local links so they become less reliant on us.  The program is completely flexible, all clients are seen and assessed by one of our team and a small amount of time given can change a person’s life.
