Wealden District Council is currently looking at the availability of land for new development in Wealden. As part of the national planning process all local planning authorities are required to prepare a Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment.

Wealden District Council is asking landowners to suggest sites which could potentially be considered for allocation through the new Local Plan. The original Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment was undertaken in 2008. On that occassion 510 sites were submitted for assessment. You can see the outcome of the assessment in the Report published in March 2010.
Sites submitted to the council are assessed in terms of their suitability for development, availability and likelihood of development being financially viable.

In addition to housing, the study will consider a wider range of land uses including retail, office and business development, gypsy and traveller sites, green infrastructure and mixed use development.
As part of the wider process, the National Planning Policy Framework states that other interested parties in local communities should have an opportunity to contribute. This should include parish and town councils, neighbourhood forums, businesses and business representative organisations.
Potential sites could include derelict land & buildings; under-utilised facilities such as garage blocks; disused agricultural buildings; the converstion of offices to housing; and land & buildings owned by the public sector which is surplus to requirements.
The deadline for submissions is now approaching and it is important that submissions are received by 22nd May 2015.
