The names of eleven people killed in The Great War are to be added to the War Memorial at Chapel Green.

The soldiers are buried in Herne Road but are not listed on the memorial.  In view of the centenary of the end of the war this November, the Royal British Legion made the request.  The Town Council has also agreed to repaint the existing inscriptions, as the colour is failing in many places.

The names to be added are:

  • ALLCORN John Henry Thomas (L/Cpl Rifleman)
  • BIGGS William George (L/Cpl)
  • DE MORNEY Francis Randolph (Sapper)
  • EDWARDS Arthur Edgar (Private)
  • Jenner H (Private)
  • Kay W (Sapper)
  • MASON CWE (Sergeant)
  • PARKER J (Private)
  • PITTS Ernest (Signaller)
  • WATSON RL (Sapper)
