It has been announced that in January the Saturday music school will move from Crowborough to Heathfield Community College.
Area Music Centres support students who are already learning an instrument and provide opportunities for them to play in groups, bands and choirs. There are other centres in Eastbourne, Lewes and Hastings. There is a fee paid termly to attend and join in activities.
An East Sussex Music spokesman said the new home offers more space, a performance hall and easier access for many:
The move from Crowborough to Heathfield will allow us more space to expand the centre and to offer more activities than at present.
It will also be more accessible to many of our players and gives us the chance to create an even more vibrant social feeling to the centre.
One big benefit of the new centre is that it has its own concert hall which will enable us to put on our own concerts in our own venue.
We’re sorry to leave Crowborough but we think the move is the best option for the long-term future and will allow us to offer even more young people from across the Wealden area more opportunities to enjoy music.
Earlier this year there was concerns individual and small group instrumental lessons might be scrapped because of budget cuts. However money was saved via voluntary redundancies and reduced hours, among other efficiencies.
