The winner of BBC’s Masterchef in 2006, will be cooking at the Wealden farmers’ markets over the summer – to celebrate the wealth of locally-produced, seasonal food on offer in the area.
I always try to source local produce whenever I am cooking.
Our local Wealden farmers’ markets provide a particularly good source of the freshest ingredients and seasonal vegetables. I am always excited by the prospect of finding a new delicacy among the colourful spread of stalls.
Peter’s cookery demonstrations are part of Wealden’s celebration of the Love Your Local Market campaign taking place in May, June and July.
Led by the National Association of British Market Authorities, over 700 markets across the country are working together to raise the profile of the local stalls in their areas.
In Wealden, the 2006 Masterchef winner will be touring local farmers’ markets with exciting cookery demonstrations using seasonal market produce – followed by plenty of free tasty tasters.
The demonstrations will take place between 10am to 12.30pm on:
- Crowborough Farmers’ Market on Saturday 23rd May
- Uckfield Farmers’ Market on Saturday 6th June
- Heathfield Market on Saturday 20th June
- Hailsham Market on Saturday 11 July
Wealden’s Streets Ahead project is also backing the Love Your Local Market initiative. Helen Markwick, Wealden’s Community & Regeneration Manager, said:
Farmers’ markets don’t only play an important retail role in our towns and villages, opening up the choice of produce on offer to local residents. They provide a focal point for regular events and a meeting place where both residents and visitors can come to enjoy themselves.
The Love Your Local Market campaign in Wealden aims to attract new traders and customers. There will be FREE promotional goods such as re-useable shopping bags and badges to highlight the campaign.
Crowborough’s market is held on the fourth Saturday of every month from 9am – 1pm at the side of Crowborough & District Social Club on Croft Road.
Details of the 14 markets regularly held in and around the Wealden area are outlined in a new leaflet now available. You can download it from www.wealden.gov.uk/localmarkets
