School in the Top 3% for Progress

Jarvis Brook School has received a letter from the Education Secretary praising them for being in the top 3% of schools for progress in 2018.

The scores show how much progress pupils made in reading, writing and maths between the end of Key Stage 1 and the end of Key Stage 2.  Jarvis Brook School scored well above average in all three areas.

Damian Hinds MP, Secretary of State for Education, and Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for School Standards, wrote to congratulate the headteacher, staff and pupils on achieving such high standards (click to download).

Jarvis Brook’s Headteacher, Jacqueline Zadeh, said:

We’re very pleased with these particular results and that staff and student hard work has been recognised in this way.  We are also delighted that our children have achieved these exceptional results.  As well as being in the top 3% nationally, our Writing scores are even higher and are in the top 1% in the country!  Our children have achieved well and continue to achieve well across the board – last year, for instance, nearly a third of our Year 6 students scored at the very highest levels in Writing and in Maths – which only 10% of children nationally are expected to achieve.

The school performance data published by the Government are calculated by comparing test and assessment results of pupils with the results of pupils in schools across England.  A high score means pupils at the school made more progress.  A score below zero means pupils made less progress, on average, than pupils across England who got similar results at the end of Key Stage 1.

Mrs Zadeh added:

And previously, 2017 results at Jarvis Brook – across the majority of measures schools are held accountable for – EYFS results, Year 1 Phonics results, Year 2 Key Stage 1 Reading, Writing and Maths results, and Year 6 Key Stage 2 Reading, Writing, Grammar and Maths results, were the highest in Crowborough.  And this is not the first time the school has received congratulations from Westminster – in 2016 and 2017, the school received congratulations from Nick Gibb MP, for outstanding Phonics scores of 96% and 94% respectively.

All those involved with Jarvis Brook are committed to working together to ensure that all our children are supported to succeed; our children’s educational outcomes, and their happiness and wellbeing are our greatest achievements; we have the highest expectations for every child in our care. We continue to work in partnership with our academy group, The Tenax Trust, led by Ian Bauckham CBE, and our staff, our parents, our governors, and the children themselves to make Jarvis Brook the very best it can be.
