Could you contribute to careers education at Beacon Academy, either by sharing skills or advice, or providing work experience opportunities for students?

Almost three years ago Beacon Academy gained the Investors in Careers Award for demonstrating an ongoing commitment to Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance for all students.  The Academy is due for reassessment in June 2018.

Mrs Hayley Bodman, Associate Assistant Headteacher, Transition & Personal Development and Head of Year 7 said:

At Beacon Academy we believe it is never too early to consider future pathways and careers.  All students receive careers education from Years 7-13 through discrete lessons such as Personal, Social, Citizenship and Health Education, tutor time activities or through events that we hold such as our Sixth Form Interview Day held in Term Two.  We are fortunate to have our own Careers Advisor, Mr Gary Williams, qualified to Level 6, to advise and guide our students through key transition periods and assisting them in exploring the right pathways for them.  Running alongside this is our voluntary Work Experience Programme for selected students in Year 10, and for students in Years 11-13 enabling them to participate in work-related learning at week-long work placements, giving them a real idea of demands within various working environments.

Beacon Academy is in search of employers and organisations that could help students along the pathway to their chosen careers or further education.  If you could spare a couple of hours sharing skills or provide work experience, please contact either Work Experience Coordinator, Mrs Jones at j.jones@beacon-academy.org or Head of Transition and Personal Development, Mrs Bodman at h.bodman@beacon-academy.org.
