Houses by Crowborough Army Camp

A planning application has been submitted to build 18 houses on a field just by the entrance to Crowborough Army Camp.

The land is adjacent to the A26 and opposite the junction to Sheep Plain.

The application is an outline application – with appearance, landscaping and layout as reserved matters to be determined at a later date.

The proposed housing mix will be 6 x two-bedroom houses and 8 x three-bedroom houses and 4 x four-bedrooms houses.

The scheme will provide 35% affordable housing – 2 x two-bed houses and 4 x three-bed houses

The Design and Access Statement submitted with the outline application states that the intention is:

To deliver a mix of housing – 18 new dwellings, offering 2-4 bedroom properties, comprising a range of house types from linked houses to detached properties.

The landscape strategy will include a natural buffer alongside the A26.

The field is next to Moor Court, which is currently being marketed with guide price of £3.5 million.

  1. Perhaps Moor Court (if that’s the mansion opposite Sheep Plain) could be transformed into more modest accommodation for at least four families. There are more than enough huge, obscenely priced houses in Crowborough. At least this time 35% of the proposed development will be affordable (whatever that means), unless the developer finds a way round it, as they so often do, and more opportunities to house young people are lost.
