Following the cancellation of the Crowborough Hospital Fête, the centrepiece of the Friends’ fundraising efforts will this August be a pop-up charity shop on Croft Road.
Additional funds will be raised by a raffle and two supermarket collections.
Thanks to the generosity of the owner, the Friends of Crowborough Hospital are opening a shop in the vacant part of Chappell’s pharmacy and health food store in Croft Road.
It will be open from 10.30am to 2.30pm, Monday to Saturday, starting on Saturday 1st August until Saturday 30th August.
Visitors will be able to buy the wide range of goods normally sold by the Friends’ Shop at the hospital, including homemade preserves, hand-knitted children’s clothes and keenly priced greetings cards.
Two town centre supermarkets are supporting the hospital with Waitrose nominating the Friends’ as one of three recipients of its £1,000 charitable giving in August and Morrisons allowing Friends’ volunteers to collect cash donations in store from Saturday 1st August to Friday 7th August.
Friends’ chairman, Chantal Wilson, said this will be a great opportunity for the community of Crowborough to donate some of the money they might have spent at the fete:
It is so disappointing that the hospital fete cannot go ahead this year but we still have a great opportunity for the community to show its appreciation of the hospital and raise vital funds.
The Friends’ contribution to the hospital services and equipment is now more important than ever with the NHS being under so much pressure.
During August I hope everyone will use the new opportunities we have created for giving to the hospital. I’m sure we can rely on the usual great support we receive from Crowborough people. There is no better time to support your local NHS.
The Friends of Crowborough Hospital work voluntarily raising funds to support our local hospital and all it has to offer local people.
Established in 1955, the Friends have a proud history of providing both funds and volunteers for our local hospital. Over the years, the Friends have funded several major rebuilding projects at the hospital, culminating in raising £1.5 million towards the hospital redevelopment in 1999.
The August Bank Holiday Hospital Fete is the major fund-raising event of the year, organised annually by the Friends. Other sources of funding range from legacies and special social events to collection boxes generously hosted at various sites.
