A series of free courses are being offered for people with mental health needs living in North Wealden.
As well as courses on a diverse range of subjects as Tai Chi, art and first aid, Sussex Oakleaf run drop-in sessions in Crowborough for people who need help to recover control of their lives after suffering a crisis.
The social groups on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon are held at the Community Centre, and offer the opportunity for people with mental health issues to meet others with similar needs in a safe place.
Sussex Oakleaf are commissioned to provide Day Services in East Sussex based on the ethos of recovery and social inclusion for adults with mental health issues, offering social and structured support to members. All clients receive individual support designed to enable them to meet their personal needs and goals helping them to gain the confidence to engage with activities of their choice. The project enables clients to engage with activities that promote recovery including peer support; encouraging use of local community resources; participation in cultural events; support to increase physical activities and a clear role in influencing decisions in service provision and in all areas of life that affect them.
Sharon McIntosh, Senior Community Recovery Worker at the Society, said:
Members are supported to attend a range of regular wellbeing activities at the Centres, including healthy eating sessions, walking groups, reading workshops, confidence building courses, sport, relaxation as well as drop in social groups at other local community venues.
Partnerships with other voluntary and statutory agencies provide additional facilitated groups and courses at the Centres including Rethink, Survivors, Health in Mind and Sussex Downs College.
Sussex Oakleaf run two drop-in groups at the Crowborough Community Centre on a Tuesday 2-4pm and Thursday 12noon-4pm. If someone is interested in attending we run a new client referral drop-in from 10am-12noon on a Thursday whereby they can complete a referral form and have access to the groups. The group is facilitated by a member of the staff from the North Wealden Community Wellbeing Service.
