On Tuesday an inaugural Team Invitation Golf Day was held at Crowborough Beacon Golf Club.
25 teams of three guest players from clubs in Sussex, Surrey and Kent (and one team from as far afield as Bedfordshire) were each hosted by a member from Crowborough Beacon and competed in a Stableford competition for the Harvey’s Tankard.
The Golf Day was an opportunity for Crowborough Beacon to showcase their course, which is ranked 68 in England by Golf World Magazine. Founded in 1895, the dramatic heathland setting has some wonderful views towards the South Downs.
Harvey’s Brewery also sponsored a Hole-In-One competition on the 6th hole to win a year’s supply of beer. Despite some close efforts, perhaps unsurprisingly this was not won.
A lovely sunny Autumnal day made for an enjoyable round of golf and the teams then sat down to a tasty carvery lunch with wine. The prizes provided by Harvey’s and some major golf product suppliers were presented by the Club Captain Richard Hemsley. The winners of the Harvey’s Tankard with 109 points were Bedfordshire – Richard Kensall, Richard Bushell, John Julian and Colin Webb. 2nd with 107 points were West Kent – Stephen Bonner, John Marshall, Colin Moore and Allister Andrew and 3rd with 106 points were Wrotham Heath – Steve Eames, Nick Burden, Roger Cross and Peter Fortune.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by David Lewis (Bansted Downs), Clive Voller (Mid Sussex), John Marshall (West Kent), Michael Hurley (Mid Sussex) and Allister Andrew (Crowborough Beacon).
The Club hope the event will now become an annual fixture in the Crowborough Beacon calendar. Crowborough Beacon is extending a warm welcome to golfers who wish to play one of the most picturesque inland course. Click to see their offers for visitors: www.cbgc.co.uk.
