Girls Rugby Open Day

Crowborough RFC are running a taster session this Sunday for girls in Years 7 to 13 to try rugby.

The Open Day is aimed at girls who haven’t played before or anyone wanting to get back into the game.

Rugby is one of the fastest growing female sports in the country. As there is now a lot more publicity and televised women’s sport, for example the sell-out England v Germany football match, England Women’s Rugby earning their first win in France since 2012 at the weekend, along with netball and cricket successes, Crowborough RFC are encouraging girls and women to get involved in the sport.

The Director of Women’s & Girls Rugby at the Club, Sharon Green said:

Rugby is often a sport girls shy away from as it can be a tough game but the aim of an open day is to let girls come and try it out in a fun environment. No tackling, no gumshields just fun and fitness with a rugby ball. If they like it then come along to regular training for 4 weeks for free before committing.

The Open Day starts at 10am with a meeting in the clubhouse. Girls should turn-up just with plenty of layers of clothing, boots, if they have them, and a bottle of water.

Sharon, who is the main girls coach with a team of other qualified coaches, added:

The Club is a very social club and the bunch of girls we do have are really keen and very friendly. We just want to grow our numbers so we can start playing competitively.

The Club have put this YouTube video together, which features England players Rachael Burford and Danielle Waterman, to promote the event:

The Open Day takes place this Sunday (17th November) at Crowborough Rugby Club on Green Lane from 10am until 12noon. It is for girls in Years 7 to 13. No experience is necessary.
