Get involved in the planning process

Wealden District Council is asking residents, community organisations and businesses how they would like to be involved in the local planning process in the years ahead.

The Statement of Community Involvement explains how the public will be involved in the preparation of new planning documents.

1.1 The planning system is an important part of our lives and affects us all in some way;
from the homes and streets we live in, the places that we work, the location and types of
shops that we shop in, as well as the outdoor spaces and natural environment that we
spend time relaxing in.

1.2 How Wealden District develops in the future will be led by the planning system. It
is therefore important that the local community and stakeholders know how they can take part in the planning process and participate in planning decisions.

1.3 Understanding the issues, opportunities, challenges and options is an important
part in the plan making process and engagement and consultation with relevant partners and communities is essential to this.

Councillor Ann Newton, Wealden District Council’s Cabinet member for Planning and Development, said:

An important part of the planning process is to consult with members of the public, local authorities, service providers and businesses.

This includes both our wider planning policies and individual development applications.

It will also take account of a number of changes in legislation since the Council’s last Statement of Community Involvement was published in 2015.

Councillor Newton added:

It is important everyone is able to have a say in the planning process. With the improvements we have all seen in digital communications, we welcome opportunities to improve the way we consult in the most efficient and timely way.
