“Walking for Autism” George’s 185 mile walk around Sussex


George Moss’s passion for fundraising has seen him raise over £3,000 for The British Heart Foundation and £2,500 for MacMillan Cancer Nurses in the last 3 years.

George Moss 185 mile walk around Sussex for autismHis most challenging event to date will see George walking the distance of seven marathons in seven days, finishing his epic march around Sussex at the Summer Fair at Goldsmiths on Saturday 8th July.

George Moss, 57, has lived in Crowborough since the mid 80s and has been a Town Councillor for the last 9 years.  He is also known to many people locally through his role as a volunteer First Responder for the ambulance service.

This year has seen George put on three fundraising events under the banner “Walking for Autism” with his charity of choice being The National Autistic Society.  So far this year has raised just over £3,000 on the first two events: A round the Isle of Wight, 68 mile walk and a Quiz Night at All Saints Church.

The third and most challenging event so far will see George walking circa 185 miles around Sussex doing 27+ miles a day for 7 days.   The challenge is due to complete at the Town Council Summer Fair on the 8th July with the preceding 7 days routes as follows:

  • Day 1 – (2nd July) – Crowborough to Bodiam  (Sussex border path)
  • Day 2 – (3rd July) – Bodiam to Westfield via Rye  (Sussex border path and 1066 country walk)
  • Day 3 – (4th July) – Westfield to Alfriston  (1066 country walk & South Downs Way)
  • Day 4 – (5th July) – Alfriston to Devils Dyke (South Downs Way)
  • Day 5 – (6th July) – Devils Dyke Golf club to Wisborough Green (South Downs Way and Wey Valley Path)
  • Day 6 – (7th July) – Wisborough Green to Gatwick Airport  (Wey Valley Path & Sussex border path )
  • Day 7 – (8th July) – Gatwick Airport  to Crowborough  (Sussex border path)

George will largely be walking on his own but is accompanied on Days 1,2 & 7 by Becky Pettitt.
