Flats at former NatWest

Plans have been submitted to create flats above the former NatWest bank in Crowborough.

Former NatWest branch in Crowborough 7 High Street

A property development company, The Opal Group, have applied to Wealden District Council for change of use to convert offices on the first and second floor of the former High Street branch at 7 High Street, into four one-bedroom flats.

According to the application, the proposals would not see any work to the ground floor or exterior of the building.

The proposals do not include any parking spaces, but developers argue this is acceptable the flats would generate less traffic than the previous office use.

The covering letter with the application states:

Due to the scale of development, town centre location and excellent transport links we believe a zero provision of parking is acceptable in policy terms.  There is currently no associated parking with the site in the first instance and the proposed C3 use class is a lower provision than the existing B1 use, there are plenty of public car parks near-by.

NatWest closed the Crowborough branch in May last year as part of a range of closures.

The public have until 14th January to comment on the proposals (Ref: WD/2018/2682/P01): planning.wealden.gov.uk
