Update: Following the cable fire on Sunday, Openreach expect the repairs to the phone system in Jarvis Brook to be completed by next Wednesday 9th August.

A spokesperson for Openreach, the part of BT that looks after the network, said on Monday:
We can confirm that there was a fire at the footway box near the Crowborough Hill junction. The fire damaged underground cables and there are around 140 reported faults as a result. The repair work is complex and time-consuming and our engineers are working as quickly as they can to restore service as soon as possible. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused to local residents that have been affected.
Crowborough firefighters were sent to an incident on Crowborough Hill, by the junction with Medway and Osborne Road just after 11.30am on Sunday (30th July).

Telephone cables have been damaged in the fire. Scott Walters told CrowboroughLife:
Anyone in the Crowborough Hill / Medway / Jarvis Brook area wondering why their internet and phone lines aren’t working, it’s because the cables have burned to a crisp. Fault reported, no ETA on a fix. Don’t expect it up again soon though…
