Local businesses rally to save school’s Christmas

This year has been a tough one for all our local schools. And, with the cancellation of Christmas fairs, schools risk missing out on one of their biggest fundraising opportunities of the year.

However, at Sir Henry Fermor School, things are looking up!

With no way to safely manage a Christmas fair, the school’s Parent Teacher Association (Friends of Fermor School) decided to try and run a “remote” Christmas raffle, to raise valuable funds for the school.

Parents at the school donated items in all the colours of the rainbow – reflecting the pictures that so many of the children had stuck to their windows earlier this year. These wonderful gifts have been used to create multi-coloured hamper prizes.

Friends of Fermor School also approached local businesses to see if any would be willing to provide a prize. The team didn’t expect much response in a year that’s been so difficult for many local businesses. However, they were astounded by the reaction.

A huge number of Crowborough small businesses offered vouchers and gifts. Some larger local companies even put their hands in their pockets to donate cash prizes.

As a result, the school’s raffle is enjoying a bumper year! Every penny earnt from the sale of tickets will go directly to providing equipment and facilities for the children at Fermor School. Some of the projects planned include new games to be painted on the playgrounds, interactive classroom screens and a wildflower meadow in the Forest School.

The kindness shown demonstrates that Crowborough businesses truly do have hearts of gold, even in the worst of times.

Tickets are available for sale now, priced at £1 each.

Anyone can purchase a ticket, so long as they can collect their prize from Sir Henry Fermor School between the 15th and 17th December.

To purchase tickets, email friends@fermorschool.org.uk with the number of tickets you would like. A full information can be found on their website: www.fermorschool.org.uk.
