A by-election has been called to fill the vacancy on Wealden District Council caused by the sad death of Major Antony Quin.
The by-election for Crowborough West Ward (pdf profile) will take place on 22nd January, and people wishing to stand have until 4pm on 22nd December to submit a nomination form.
Jeannette Towey, who is a trustee of Jarvis Brook Community Hub, has already said she plans to stand:
It’s going to be a busy time in Crowborough West. By-election on 22/1 and I will be standing. Prepare yourself.

Elections for Wealden District Council will routinely be held on the 7th May, along with elections for the MP for Wealden, Crowborough Town Councillors and parish elections.
The death of Major Quin on the 30th October, fell just outside a critical 6-months period before the end of Councillor’s term of office – allowing the by-election to take place despite the imminent elections on 7th May. For the by-election to be held, it had to be formally requested by two or more electors from the district.
It is thought with crucial decisions being made by Wealden District Council about the future of Pine Grove, campaigners wanted the vacancy filled, so all eight Crowborough Councillors could represent the views of the community on this and other important matters.
The person elected on 22nd January, will however have to re-stand on 7th May, just 15 weeks later.
Two Councillors represent Crowborough West. The second Councillor, Diane Phillips, will continue to represent the ward until the routine elections on 7th May.
