Driver failed to stop after hitting an elderly man in Crowborough


Sussex Police are investigating a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian outside the Esso petrol station in Crowborough.

The incident occurred at around 6.15pm on Sunday (2nd January) near the junction of A26 Eridge Road and Park Road.

The victim is Alan Brown a 75-year-old local man was walking past the Esso petrol station he was hit by a car leaving the forecourt. Alan was taken to hospital for treatment for serious leg injuries. It is understood his leg has been broken in two places and requires an operation to repair the fractures.

The vehicle – thought to be a grey Volkswagen Golf or Polo – failed to stop at the scene.

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who saw what happened, or who may have captured any relevant dash cam footage from the area, is asked to contact Sussex Police online or call them on 101, quoting serial 954 of 02/01.

Amendment: The time of the incident was changed from 6.50pm to 6.15pm after clarification.
