East Sussex’s Chief Fire Officer to retire


After fourteen years as the Chief Officer at East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, Des Prichard has decided to stand-down later this year.

Des-PrichardIn a career spanning 39 years, he initially worked in Buckinghamshire and then Bedfordshire, before taking-up a lecturer’s post at the Fire Service College in the early 1990s.  In 1995 he was appointed Assistant Chief Fire Officer in East Sussex.  He was promoted to Deputy Chief Fire Officer in 1996 and then again to Chief Fire Officer & Chief Executive in 2001.

Chairman of the East Sussex Fire Authority, Phil Howson said:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his hard work and dedication in making East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service one of the most innovative and forward thinking Services in the country.  As Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive, Des has been a passionate advocate of community safety, and has shown his personal leadership and commitment to the delivery of a high performing emergency service during his time in office. We have no doubt that he will continue to provide that same leadership and drive for excellence over the coming months.

CFO Prichard will remain in post until the end of September 2015.
