Dr Peter Rowell, the much loved former Pastor of Forest Fold Baptist Chapel on London Road in Crowborough, died on 28th October after a long illness.
He was the Pastor of Forest Fold from 1983 until retiring in 2007. Peter continued to live in Crowborough with his wife Kathleen, preaching when he was able in churches both locally and throughout the country.
Before coming to Crowborough, Peter was a Baptist Pastor in Coventry for 18 years and before that he obtained a PhD in Physics, working in scientific research at the Clarendon Laboratories in Oxford and other places.
He strongly believed in the Bible as God’s word, and had a gift of being able to explain clearly the good news of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to all who listened. His Christian ministry and wise counsel was greatly appreciated, both in Crowborough and in the many other places he visited.
Peter was thankful to God that the Church at Forest Fold grew in strength and numbers during his 24 years as Pastor and was very encouraged after he retired with the continued growth into the thriving church that it is today.
Kathleen, their family of seven surviving children and many grandchildren, together with hundreds of appreciative friends and family are expected to attend his Funeral at Forest Fold on Tuesday 10th November, to give thanks for his long and useful life, led by the current Pastor, John Cowley.
