Group delivers Christmas hampers

Over the last couple of weeks members of Ditch the Slippers and their carers have been surprised to receive very colourful hampers of Christmas goodies.

Ditch the Slippers normally organises events in Crowborough and in Uckfield for older people who may have some physical or mental health difficulties.

Unfortunately groups haven’t been able to meet since early March 2020 but, with vaccinations on the way for everyone, they hope to return to their original bases at St Richard’s Church Hall and to the United Church soon after Easter 2021.

Thanks to a grant of £500 from Wealden District Council the volunteers were able to purchase and prepare hampers so that more than 40 people had a pleasant surprise just in time for Christmas. The hampers were delivered to their doors by volunteers who normally support the group’s weekly sessions of singing and games.

The group’s success relies on a small army of volunteers who give their time to support the activities or to provide transport for members. Skittles and Boccia runs every Monday morning and once a month on Wednesday mornings at the United Church in Crowborough. A wonderful happy Singing Group meets on Thursday mornings in St Richards Church Hall.
