Golf’s De La Warr Trophy

During a welcome spell of warm and dry weather, after the rain and cold of January and February, two competitions were played at Crowborough Beacon Golf Course this weekend.

The first was the men’s De La Warr Trophy, a four ball better ball competition played off three-quarters of combined handicaps.  The first round was played on Saturday (7th March) with the best eight pairs going through to the final on Sunday.  In first place with a combined two day score of 80 points were Rich Leeves playing off a scratch handicap and James Garrett playing off 14.  In second place were Peter Horwood off 10 and John Witherden off 16 with 79 points and in third place were Graham Smith, also a scratch golfer and David Ward off 15 with 75 points.

In the afternoon the Calamity Jane Putters, an any combination Greensomes competition was played.  In first place with 40 points were Vicki Jordan and Graham Smith In second place with 38 points were Jan Gibb and Philip Parker and in third place with 35 points were Helen Brown and Andrew Corbett.
