Cyclists celebrate twinning between Horwich & Crowborough

Cyclists from Horwich recently visited East Sussex to be part of the celebrations to mark the 25th Anniversary of the signing of the Twinning Charter with Crowborough.

This is one of a number of events being held during the year to mark the Jubilee.

To commemorate their visit, members of Horwich Cycling Club presented Wealden Cycle Club with an engraved cup.  On the Saturday the two groups of cyclists took off for a ride which took them past Herstmonceux Castle & Observatory, Pevensey Levels and along the coast near Eastbourne.

Neil Brown of Horwich Cycling Club said:

As Crowborough stands 800 feet above sea level, we knew that it would be a climb back.  We passed by the back gate of Priscilla Presley’s residence, the daughter of Elvis.  We cycled 62.5 miles, climbed in excess of 3,000 feet overall on our ride and I, for one, had rather tired legs.  As Saturday is not a normal cycling day for the Wealden Cycle Club we were most grateful for the support we received from them with 13 members joining us on the ride.

In the evening a buffet had been organised by Wealden Cycle Club at a local pub.

On Sundays they cycled in the Ashdown Forest and enjoyed lunch at the National Cat Adoption Centre

It is hoped that as this new relationship between the two cycle clubs has been established, that members of Wealden Cycle Club will come to Horwich next year, to take part in the annual Horwich Festival of Racing which takes place each June.

The next twinning event to mark the 25th Anniversary will be on Sunday 21st June.  Andrew Morley who is a member of Horwich Parish Church choir will sing with members of All Saints Church at the Sunday morning service.   This will be the first time that a member of Horwich Parish Church has sung with members of All Saints Church.  Other events planned include a visit from the North West Scale Model Boat Club, who hope to travel to Crowborough to sale boats with the Crowborough Model Boat Club.
