Crowborough Scouts consider extra security to combat vandalism

1st Crowborough Scouts have suffered a spate of damage at the Scout Headquarters on Whitehill Road.  Over the past year, vandals have smashed the windows at the side of the property by either throwing stones or possibly firing air rifle pellets.  Also somebody tried to kick in doors leading to the basement of the hut.

Assistant Group Scout Leader Gareth Dalton, who is also one of Friday nights leaders, told CrowboroughLife:

It makes me feel sad that people in our community would do such a thing.   The repairs we’ve had to carry-out will divert money from the programme of activities we were planning for the 300 or so young people we support.

It is a real shame that people would want to spoil it for the kids that want to take part in scouting in Crowborough.Scouts-smashed-window

1st Crowborough Scouts was founded in 1908 and is one of the largest groups in the country.  With nine sections of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts there are activities at the Headquarters most days.  The scouts are now having to consider extra security measures at more expense, such as high fencing to make the rear of the building more secure.

If you notice anything suspicious in the area please contact Sussex Police immediately.  Or if you have any information about the previous acts of vandalism, you can alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
