Crowborough gets new mobility equipment loan service

Update:  Co-op Funeralcare has closed down.  Currently waiting for information from the Red Cross as to whether this service is continuing in another location.

Residents who have mobility problems, whether short or long term, are now able to access a new service being offered by the British Red Cross in Crowborough.

The service will be of assistance for people in a variety of circumstances, such as patients coming out of hospital, when elderly relatives come and visit, or for children with a broken a leg.

As well as walking aids, such as wheelchairs and walking frames, people with limited mobility can borrow equipment such as commodes, toilet surrounds, bathing aids and grabbers (if you have difficulty picking things up).  All these thing allow people to be reasonably independent at home which obviously means shorter hospital stays and avoidance of the need for residential care.

Co-op Funeralcare in Park Road are allowing the Red Cross to operate from part of their building.  Staffed by volunteers, the service will initially operate on a Wednesday from 11am until 2pm.

Mobility Aids Service Volunteer Co-ordinator Nicola Callow said:

We are so grateful for this very generous offer which allows us to re-establish this much needed service for local residents.  Having appropriate equipment to help mobility is an important part of preserving independence and a core service for the British Red Cross.

For more information about using the service, or becoming a volunteer, see or call 0300 456 1914.
