Crowborough Lions entertain town’s Senior Citizens

Crowborough Lions Club began their Christmas festivities on Saturday with their customary luncheon for the town’s senior citizens at the United Church.

Club President Hilary Lyon welcomed more than eighty invited guests, many of whom arrived at the venue thanks to the Club’s transport arrangements.  Guest of honour Town Mayor, Councillor Peter Ellefsen.

Everyone enjoyed a traditional Christmas lunch of roast turkey with all the trimmings and Christmas pudding.

Members of the Club,  assisted by the Mayor, served the meal and made sure the guests’ glasses were regularly topped up throughout the proceedings.

Both the President and the Mayor then made short speeches wishing everyone a Happy Christmas before the entertainment by the Southern Strummers played some seasonal favourites.

Guests were then served tea and coffee with mince pies before the Ukulele Band rounded-off the afternoon with their closing set.  By this time everyone was joining in and they even got to their feet for a rousing rendition of Rod Stewart’s ‘Sailing’.

The President closed the day with a vote of thanks to the organisers and helpers, and wished everyone a safe homeward journey.

Lions Club members will be out-and-about fundraising in the run-up to Christmas.  They will be accompanying Father Christmas on his sleigh from Sunday 17th to Thursday 21st December.  The Lions try to visit as many areas of the town as possible to give children an opportunity to meet Santa.  And new for 2017, there will also be Christmas music around the tree in the town centre on the last few shopping days before Christmas.
