Update: The temporary library at Beacon Academy will close at the end of the day on Friday 14th December 2018 and the library will open in Pine Grove on Wednesday 2nd January 2019.
Books returned during this time can be posted in the returns box next door to Pine Grove in the Crowborough Community Centre.
Other East Sussex Libraries will be closed for Christmas and New Year from Monday 24th December to Wednesday 26th December (inclusive) and on Monday 31st December and Tuesday 1st January.
Crowborough Library will temporarily relocate to Beacon Academy during November and December whilst improvement work is carried-out.
The building where Crowborough Library is based on Pine Grove is currently being converted into a Enterprise Centre by Crowborough Town Council.
The Library will close on Saturday 27th October, and the temporary facility at the school’s Beeches Site is due to open later the same week, on Friday 2nd November.
Cllr Bill Bentley, East Sussex County Council’s lead member for communities and safety, said:
The closure of the library to allow the new windows to be fitted will give us the perfect opportunity to carry out vital work to ensure Crowborough Library is fit for the future.
Cllr Bill Bentley
New LED lighting will help us save money on our energy bills, while an improved layout and refurbished interior will create a more bright and comfortable space.
By carrying out our refurbishment alongside Pine Grove redevelopment work, we avoid further closures of the library and additional disruption to residents.
We appreciate that closing the library for two months will cause some disruption, but I want to assure residents that services will continue to be available both at the temporary library and online.
The temporary Library will be located in the school’s Creative Learning Centre (CLC) adjacent to the public footpath, Poundfield Path.
The Library will continue to provide their usual services, including books, public computers, printing, scanning, RhymeTime and IT For You. The temporary Library will have the same opening times. Customers’ loans will be extended during the closure, and there will be a dropbox to return items at the Crowborough Community Centre.

Headteacher, Ms Anna Robinson, commented:
We are delighted to be able to work in partnership with Crowborough Library and East Sussex County Council to support this important community facility. In doing so, not only are we helping to ensure the continuation of the usual library services to the local and wider community, but there is exciting potential for enrichment opportunities that will be of benefit to our students with the Library resources so close to hand.
To ensure the safety and safeguarding of their students, arrangements have been made to accommodate lessons and other school activities, that would normally take place in the CLC, to alternative on-site locations.
The refurbished Library is expected to reopen in the New Year.
The Library service are reminding users that services are available online through the e-library. Customers can renew and reserve books as well as download eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines.
Funding for the refurbishment comes from the County Council’s capital budget, money set aside for investment in the Council’s buildings and infrastructure. The new LED lights will be funded with a loan available from central Government which is repaid with the money saved on energy bills.
