Crowborough library expected to closed for a “short period” in the Spring

Scaffolding is currently going-up at the old Council Offices on Pine Grove as work will soon begin to refurbish the building.

Crowborough Town Council is converting the former Wealden District Council Offices, the building in which the library is based, into an Enterprise Centre.  New windows are to be fitted and the interior of the building refurbished to provide over 60 units for small business and start-ups.

Quoted in the last Town Council Newsletter, the Mayor, Cllr Peter Ellefsen, said

I am excited by the accelerating movement towards completion of the Crowborough Enterprise Centre which will provide tremendous facilities for local small businesses.  It has been a slow and meticulous process, making sure that everything in the project is properly in place, and it has not been without its problems. But now it is due to be operational next summer and I am really looking forward to the Crowborough Enterprise Centre being ‘open for business’.

East Sussex County Council has told users of Crowborough Library about the impact of the building work on the services they deliver.

They expect the library to stay open for most of the work; however, they are expecting to have to close the library for a short period in Spring 2018 while utilities such as electricity and water are connected to the new Enterprise Centre.

During the works we will provide access to as much stock and our Peoples Network computers as possible.  Although we Crowborough Library self-service machinewill continue to provide the full range of services that Crowborough Library currently offers throughout the period, there may be times when we need to restrict access to parts of the library for short periods of time.

Inevitably there will be some noise from other parts of the building as the contractors undertake the conversion.   They are also warning users to be aware that there are likely to be more contractors’ vehicles around the building.  The access road at the front of the building is currently closed and vehicles are using the exit to both enter and egress the car park.

They will keep the Crowborough Library webpage and Library Service Facebook page up-to-date and provide information about the impact of the building work in the library itself.
