Crowborough Leisure Centre now has specially trained staff qualified to offer fitness classes for teenagers.
In December staff from Freedom Leisure underwent rigorous training to understand both physical and motivational aspects of teen fitness.
Not-for-profit trust, which operates the, Crowborough, Uckfield, Heathfield and Hailsham leisure centres on behalf of Wealden District Council, has put its staff through an Adapting Fitness Instruction for Adolescents course.

Overweight and inactive teenagers remain a cause for concern within
our society with around 15% of school leavers being classified as obese. There are several reasons for this but ‘non sporty’ kids disengaging from team games and physical activity as they progress through senior school is a major factor, especially among teenage girls.
Teenagers have great scope to train and improve their cardio fitness and physique but, usually, their exercise comes in the form of sports. For teens who don’t like sports, working out in the gym or doing an age-specific class will be a popular alternative.
Our staff have received specialist training to enable them to provide classes and supervised gym sessions that are both appealing and suitable for teenagers. We hope that by engaging with youngsters at an earlier age, we can encourage a healthier lifestyle among this age group.
Freedom Leisure says the teens will be able to work out during the natural lull in their timetables between 4pm and 6pm. This means teenagers can come in after school and be finished before the evening classes start and adults come in after work.
