Crowborough Foodbank needs warehouse space

Crowborough Foodbank logoTo cope with an influx of donations Crowborough Foodbank is looking for improved facilities to sort and store food donations.

Harvest festivals in Crowborough have been increasing the workload for Crowborough Foodbank (in a good way) as provisions have come flooding in.

Warehouse Manager John Alexander said:

We’ve had a tremendous response from local churches and schools over recent weeks.  In all the foodbank has received 930 kg of food – enough to provide nearly 1,200 meals for people in need.

Although the foodbank management team is enormously grateful to children and adults alike for their generosity, its limited storage capacity is now feeling the strain.

John added:

At present our food stock is held in a garage, a shed and a room in a local church.  Space is at a premium and means we often have to carry out the essential sorting of Best Before dates in cramped conditions. To cope with a sudden influx of food as happens at Harvest we really need one large warehouse area which can become our permanent site.

Since launching in January this year the foodbank, which runs as a project of Food-Bank-Open-SignCrowborough & Rotherfield Churches Together under the Trussell Trust, has fed 309 clients, 126 of them children, with a three-days supply of food.

If you are struggling to cope with bills and need assistance with emergency food, go along to the Citizens Advice Bureaux in Crowborough, or if you are a young person, ask at Clued-up.Info on The Broadway.

You will be given a voucher to take to the Crowborough foodbank at the United Church in Croft Road on a Tuesday or Friday afternoon.
