Crowborough Town Council have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel Saturday’s fireworks display because of flooding.
They made the announcement on Thursday when they shared a series of photos on social media showing the problem at Goldsmith’s Recreation Ground.

It is with a heavy heart that Crowborough Town Council must cancel the firework display due to take place on Saturday 5th November. The Town’s annual firework display is one of the most popular and well attended events in the Town’s calendar. This is not a decision that has been taken lightly as this is the first time in its’ history that the event has to be cancelled.
Unfortunately, the weather has beaten us. We have been monitoring the situation very closely and have looked at ways we might mitigate the risks. A Health and Safety assessment has now been carried out and it very clear that if the event went ahead, it would pose a risk to public safety. Crowborough Town Council is very disappointed to take this course of action, but it is the right decision based on the information we have been given this afternoon.
Statement on Crowborough Town Council’s Facebook page
The weather forecast is for more rain on Saturday afternoon and evening.
Update (4th October): Unfortunately, the Town Council have decided the event will not be rescheduled this year. A full report, explaining the reasoning and the financial implications, is expected to be considered at the next meeting of the Communications & Events Committee.
Crowborough Town Council is outrageous. He was the last one to reopen things after Covid. And now this! Why the event has not been rescheduled? Fireworks are funded by our taxes. And where will this money go now???
